  • Driver stopped vehicle safely, preventing larger accident
  • Fire brigade doused flames after short circuit sparked blaze

DHANBAD – A coal-laden container was reduced to ashes after it caught fire due to a short circuit near Patharia in Dhanbad’s Govindpur area on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the vehicle, bearing registration number WB 59C 3684, was en route from Rajganj to Sahibganj. However, as it approached Khudiya Bridge, the driver heard a loud noise and noticed smoke rising from the engine.

Sensing danger, the driver immediately steered the truck about one kilometre off the main road and brought it to a halt. Meanwhile, he and local residents tried to control the flames with water before alerting the fire department.

Soon after, a fire tender arrived at the spot and extinguished the blaze completely. Fortunately, no one was injured. On the other hand, the timely action of the driver prevented the fire from reaching the coal-loaded rear of the vehicle, which could have caused a major explosion.

A local resident said, “Had the driver not reacted fast, the entire area could have faced a serious disaster.”

Besides, police teams later inspected the site to ensure safety and cleared the vehicle remains from the road to restore traffic flow.
