CHAIBASA – In West Singhbhum, Maoist rebels have blocked the main Manoharpur–Kolbonga road in the Saranda forest by cutting down and placing two large trees across the route. The incident brought traffic movement to a complete halt.
Posters and banners bearing Maoist messages were found on the felled trees. The action follows a series of violent acts in the region this week.
Earlier on Wednesday, CPI (Maoist) cadres had torched a BSNL mobile tower in Kudlibad village under Chhotanagra police station limits. They also blew up the road connecting Kudlibad and Kariya using explosives.
According to officials, the extremist outfit is currently observing a “retaliation fortnight” against Operation Kagar, an anti-Naxal campaign being conducted by security forces.
The incident has created panic among locals. Meanwhile, joint security teams have intensified search operations across the Saranda forest to track the armed groups involved.
