GIRIDIH – A teenager died on the spot and two others were injured after a truck hit their scooty near Koldiha in Giridih on Friday morning.

The mishap happened around Koldiha, where three boys were riding on a scooty. They were headed toward Giridih Stadium for a morning walk.

However, a speeding truck struck them just before Koldiha petrol pump. As a result, 16-year-old Kurbaan Ansari from Pahadidih died immediately.

The two others on the scooty sustained serious injuries. All three were rushed to Giridih Sadar Hospital. However, doctors declared Kurbaan dead on arrival.

After the accident, tension gripped the area. Locals placed the body near Koldiha mosque and blocked the road in protest.

Meanwhile, police led by Town Police Station in-charge Gyan Ranjan reached the scene. They tried to calm the protesters and restore traffic.

In addition, Block Development Officer Ganesh Rajak also arrived to address the situation.

The accident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving in the region. Similar incidents have occurred earlier near Koldiha, especially during morning hours.

Despite regular traffic checks, speeding remains a menace on Giridih’s roads. According to government data, Jharkhand witnessed over 5,000 road accidents in 2024. Over 40% involved two-wheelers.

Locals are demanding strict action against the truck driver. “This is not the first time,” said a local resident. “We want permanent speed checks here.”

Authorities are yet to confirm if the truck and its driver have been traced. An investigation is underway.
