Aadhaar authentication mandatory for online Tatkal bookings

IRCTC implements new verification rules from July 2025

Key Points:

  • Aadhaar linking required for IRCTC Tatkal bookings from July 1
  • OTP authentication becomes mandatory for all Tatkal tickets July 15
  • Agents banned from booking Tatkal tickets in first 30 minutes

JAMSHEDPUR – Indian Railways introduces stricter authentication measures for Tatkal train ticket bookings through IRCTC platforms starting July 2025.

The new regulations will transform how passengers book urgent train tickets. From July 1, 2025, travelers must complete Aadhaar verification with their IRCTC accounts. Only verified users can access Tatkal booking services online.

However, the authentication process extends beyond simple linking. Passengers need to successfully verify their Aadhaar details through the system. This verification becomes a prerequisite for accessing premium booking services.

Meanwhile, additional security measures take effect from July 15, 2025. OTP authentication will become compulsory for all Tatkal reservations. This applies to both online platforms and offline booking counters.

Moreover, the Railway Ministry has introduced restrictions on authorized agents. These agents cannot book Tatkal tickets during the initial 30-minute window. This measure aims to provide fair access to individual passengers.

In addition, the new rules cover all categories of Tatkal tickets. Both AC and non-AC coach reservations fall under these regulations. The computerized Passenger Reservation System counters must also implement OTP verification.

Furthermore, authorized railway agents face the same OTP requirements as individual users. They must complete additional verification steps for each Tatkal booking. This creates uniformity across all booking channels.

The implementation timeline provides passengers adequate preparation time. IRCTC users have until July 1 to complete Aadhaar linking procedures. The OTP system rollout follows two weeks later.

Besides individual bookings, the changes affect commercial travel arrangements. Travel agencies and booking services must adapt to new verification protocols. This may impact their service delivery timelines.

On the other hand, these measures enhance booking security significantly. The dual authentication system reduces unauthorized access to premium services. Passengers can expect more reliable ticket availability during Tatkal windows.
