Private Schools Profit Heavily from Book and Uniform Sales

Schools Earn Up to Rs 20 Lakh Commission from Publishers Annually

Key Points:

  • Schools receive massive commissions through designated book sellers
  • Annual earnings reach Rs 10-12 crore from book sales alone
  • Parents forced to buy from specific shops at inflated prices

JAMSHEDPUR – Private schools are earning substantial commissions from book and uniform sales as the new academic session approaches.

Publishers offer schools commission for old books. Smaller schools earn Rs 5-7 lakh annually from sales.

“Schools force 20% higher rates on parents,” Dr. Umesh, Jamshedpur Abhibhavak Sangh President, stated.

Financial Impact

The NEP curriculum changes affect classes 3,5,7 and 8. This adds to parents’ financial burden.

Meanwhile, monthly education costs reach Rs 5,000 for families. Many struggle with rising expenses.

System Exploitation

Schools provide lists of designated shops. These stores report student purchases to schools.

Moreover, administrative bodies ignore the practice. Parents lack power to challenge the system.

Parent Struggles

Working parents find costs overwhelming. Monthly salaries barely cover educational expenses.

However, fear prevents formal complaints. The practice continues without oversight or intervention.
