JAMSHEDPUR – In a daring heist, unidentified armed robbers stole copper coils worth ₹18 lakh from the Hatia Electricity Substation in Potka. The incident occurred late Saturday night when two employees on duty were held hostage at gunpoint, sparking fear among other employees.
Overnight Ordeal for Employees
The robbers, reportedly 10-12 in number, arrived armed and ambushed employees Sonu Kunkal and Nayan Mal. The duo was overpowered and confined to a room. The robbers seized their mobile phones before using gas cutters to dismantle a 5 MVA transformer and extract copper coils throughout the night.
Morning Shift Employee Discovers Crime
The crime came to light when Jagga Sardar, an employee on the morning shift, arrived at 5:30 AM. He found the two employees still bound and alerted other staff members. The incident was subsequently reported to the Potka Police, who have launched an investigation.
Fear Grips Employees
The brazen nature of the robbery has left electricity department employees shaken. “The robbers were heavily armed and worked methodically,” said SBO Sonu Kunkal. Authorities are working to identify the perpetrators and ensure the safety of substation staff.
