Saryu Roy Alleges Irregularities in Blanket Distribution

Blanket Quality in Rural Areas Sparks Concerns

Allegations over poor-quality blankets in Jharkhand prompt a call for inquiry by Saryu Roy.

Key Points:

  • Saryu Roy accuses poor-quality blanket distribution in rural areas.
  • Calls for a probe into centralized blanket procurement in Ranchi.
  • Questions quality of blankets made from recycled threads.

JAMSHEDPUR – Saryu Roy, MLA of Jamshedpur West, has once again raised the issue of blanket distribution quality in Jharkhand. Highlighting discrepancies similar to those alleged in 2018, he has now brought attention to the 2025 procurement.

Roy emphasized that while blankets in urban areas are acceptable, those distributed in rural regions are of notably poor quality. He claims the lightweight blankets are made from recycled threads and may deteriorate after washing.

Centralized Procurement Raises Questions

Previously, blankets were sourced locally by individual districts. This year, the procurement process was centralized, with all 24 districts receiving supplies from Ranchi. Roy suggested this shift might have contributed to quality issues. “The blankets seem to be made of old, recycled threads. They won’t last even a single wash,” he stated.

Official Inquiry Demanded

In response to these concerns, Roy has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, urging an official investigation. He criticized the centralized procurement process, calling for transparency and accountability in government operations.

Implications of the Allegations

The allegations have raised questions about the efficiency of centralized distribution systems. Roy’s call for a probe highlights ongoing concerns over welfare measures in rural Jharkhand.
