WORLD DESK – An agreement to end hostilities between Hamas and Israel has been reached after over a year of continuous violence in Gaza. The deal, which is set to start implementation this Sunday, was mediated by Qatar and involves multiple international stakeholders.

The ceasefire marks a breakthrough after weeks of intensive diplomatic efforts. Qatar’s Prime Minister Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in a press conference in Doha, confirmed the finalization of the deal. President Joe Biden also announced the development, emphasizing the importance of ending the bloodshed.

Cabinet Approval Required

The agreement still requires approval by Israel’s cabinet to proceed. Sources indicate that the Israeli government is reviewing the terms and will vote soon. President Biden personally reached out to Israeli and Qatari leaders to facilitate this deal.

Trump Administration’s Role

Steve Witkoff, an envoy from President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. These talks aimed to ensure the deal aligns with U.S. interests before Trump’s inauguration. The role of Egypt as a mediating partner has also been critical in bringing the parties together.

This ceasefire aims to restore stability in the region, offering hope for a lasting resolution.
