MEDININAGAR – The grand celebration of Makar Sankranti in Palamu saw fairs and cultural events organized at various locations. Significant gatherings took place at Barahi Dham, Son River’s Dangwar in Hussainabad, Deori, Bhim Chulha near Mohammadganj’s Koel River, and Shiv Sampat Dham in Untari Road.

One of the most prominent events occurred at Purvidiha village on the Koel River’s banks, where a traditional fair and cultural program were organized in memory of the late spiritual leader Dharmavilin Sukhdevacharya Ji Maharaj. The event has been held annually for 28 years, drawing large crowds from across the region.

Grand Inauguration and Cultural Performances

Former Minister Krishna Nand Tripathi inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp. Speaking at the event, he emphasized the significance of Makar Sankranti as a day when the sun transitions into the northern hemisphere, celebrated under various names across the country.

In the evening, renowned artists, including singers Rakesh Mishra, Shivani Singh, and Akshara Gupta, entertained the crowd with captivating cultural performances.

Historical and Spiritual Significance

The Purvidiha fair has a rich history linked to the grand Lakshmi Narayan Mahayagya, held in 1994 under the guidance of Dharmavilin Sukhdevacharya Ji Maharaj. The cultural events and rituals at the Shankar Bhagwan temple have continued annually in his memory, attracting thousands of devotees and spectators.

Community Participation

The event witnessed the presence of notable personalities such as former Mayor Aruna Shankar, Ramlao Prasad Chaurasia, Santosh Kumar Dubey (Paplu Dubey), Pradeep Dubey, and numerous villagers and devotees who participated in the celebrations.
