  • New count increases IAS officers to 173, leaving a shortfall of 51.

RANCHI – Jharkhand is set to enhance its administrative capacity with the promotion of 15 officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre. This includes nine officers from the Jharkhand Administrative Service (JAS) and six from non-administrative services, bringing the total IAS officer count in the state to 173.

Promotions from Jharkhand Administrative Service

Nine JAS officers have been shortlisted for IAS elevation. Among them are Sudhir Bara, Special Secretary of the Welfare Department, and Anil Kumar Tirkey, Special Secretary in the Home Department. Others include Shail Prabha Kujur from Panchayati Raj, Sandeep Kumar in Sports, and Pashupati Nath Mishra from Garhwa. Two officers, Sudhir Das and Sanjay Kumar, have positions yet to be specified.

Contributions from Non-Administrative Services

In addition to the JAS cadre, six officers from non-administrative backgrounds will be elevated. These include candidates from diverse departments like Social Welfare, Road Construction, Education, and Health. These promotions address backlogs from previous years, ensuring departmental representation in the IAS cadre.

Addressing the IAS Cadre Shortfall

Jharkhand currently operates with 158 IAS officers against a sanctioned strength of 224, leaving a gap of 66. The forthcoming additions will reduce this shortfall to 51, though challenges remain in fully staffing the cadre. Interviews for shortlisted candidates are scheduled for December 27, 2024, with final notifications pending UPSC approval.

Strengthening Governance in Jharkhand

These promotions represent the state’s commitment to recognizing deserving officers and strengthening governance. Elevating internal talent ensures a more efficient administrative framework to meet the growing demands of Jharkhand’s governance and development needs.
