Jamshedpur DM Orders Improved Support for Women at One-Stop Center

SDM Conducts Surprise Inspection, Highlights Service Gaps at Red Cross Facility

Key Points:

  • SDM reviewed women’s support services at Red Cross premises.
  • Issues in night-stay, cleanliness, and water supply identified.
  • Public urged to report child abuse via 1098 for prompt action.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dhalbhum, Shatabdi Mazumdar, conducted an unannounced inspection of the One-Stop Center and Child Helpline at the Red Cross building. This visit followed the directives of District Magistrate Ananya Mittal. The SDM emphasized improving the living conditions and services provided to victims of abuse and violence.

During the inspection, key issues came to light, including the absence of night-stay facilities due to a lack of night guards and inadequate water supply. Mazumdar assured swift action to resolve these problems and instructed for better maintenance of cleanliness in the premises. The inspection also highlighted the absence of designated sanitation staff, further necessitating administrative intervention.

Focus on Women’s Welfare

The One-Stop Center was established to support women suffering from sexual, emotional, and economic abuse. The SDM reviewed the medical and legal assistance provided at the facility. Additionally, she directed the staff to educate victims about their legal rights and the government schemes available to them.

Mazumdar also visited the Child Helpline, stressing the need for enhanced functionality and urging citizens to report any cases of child exploitation. “If any minor is found to be exploited, report it to the toll-free number 1098 for immediate support,” she appealed.

Steps Towards Better Facilities

The SDM reiterated her commitment to improving the facilities for women and children. Moreover, she assured the deployment of counselors, doctors, and legal advisors to provide comprehensive assistance to the victims. Her visit underscores the administration’s focus on creating a safer and more supportive environment for vulnerable groups in the district.
