JAMSHEDPUR — A young woman was rescued from the edge of Dobo Bridge in the Sonari police station area late Wednesday night, after alert local youths intervened and prevented her from jumping into the river below.

The incident took place at approximately 10 pm. The woman had made her way to the side of the Dobo Bridge and was attempting to jump. Several young men who happened to be present at the location noticed her.

They assessed the seriousness of the situation without delay. Acting swiftly, they physically stopped her. They then moved her away from the bridge railing to a safe distance.

After receiving information about the incident, Sonari police reached the spot. Officers took the woman into their custody and began questioning her. Preliminary inputs suggested that she had been experiencing significant mental stress, though police said they were examining all aspects of the case.

However, no further details about the woman’s identity or background were disclosed by police. Moreover, the exact circumstances that led her to the bridge remained under investigation. Incidents involving distress near river bridges have been reported in Jamshedpur on earlier occasions as well.

Police said they were trying to contact the woman’s family members. In addition, the process of arranging necessary assistance and support for her was underway. The entire matter remained under active investigation by the Sonari police at the time of this report.

Local residents praised the young men for their timely and humane intervention. According to those present, their prompt action prevented what could have been a tragedy.
