Veteran Journalist Reflects on a Lifetime in Journalism

JAMSHEDPUR – The Press Club of Jamshedpur organized the first session of its lecture series at Hotel Dayal, Sakchi, featuring veteran journalist and author Anuj Kumar Sinha. Reflecting on his four-decade-long career, Sinha emphasized the enduring spirit of journalism and the importance of documenting significant contributions for posterity.

A New Chapter for Journalism

In an emotive speech, Sinha compared life’s transitions to a new beginning, stating, “When Pushpa One ends, Pushpa Two begins.” He shared that although he will retire from Prabhat Khabar on December 31, his passion for writing and journalism will remain undiminished. “As long as my memory, hands, and eyes function, the journalist and writer within me will live,” he remarked.

Emphasis on Documentation

Sinha highlighted the need for chronicling the efforts of unsung heroes, particularly those from Jharkhand, whose contributions to India’s freedom movement and social reforms often go unnoticed. He praised Prabhat Khabar for its role in bringing these narratives to light and commended Jamshedpur’s unique cosmopolitan culture.

Professionalism in Journalism

Addressing fellow journalists, Sinha stressed maintaining professional integrity, saying, “Personal friendships should never interfere with professional responsibilities.” Recalling moments with peers like Radheshyam Agarwal, he affirmed the unity among journalists, stating, “We were one as journalists, and we will remain so.”

The event saw a wide array of attendees, including former MP Shailendra Mahato, BJP spokesperson Amarpreet Singh Kale, and several legal and social personalities. Former Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Dinesh Sarangi spoke about Sinha’s deep connection with the state, while Prabhat Khabar senior editor Sanjay Mishra delivered the welcome address.

The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks by Press Club President Sanjeev Bhardwaj. The program highlighted significant anecdotes, such as the challenges of covering BDO abductions and tragic accidents, emphasizing the journalist’s role in saving lives and effecting meaningful change.
