Demand for Home Minister’s Resignation over Comments Against Dr. Ambedkar
Key Points:
- Congress leaders demand Amit Shah’s resignation over alleged remarks.
- Opposition parties intensify protests in support of constitutional values.
- Rallies and memorandum submissions planned across districts.
MEDININAGAR – Former Minister and senior Congress leader Bandhu Tirkey has declared ongoing protests against Home Minister Amit Shah until his resignation. The minister is accused of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Congress leaders organized a press conference at the party office on Monday, where Tirkey criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for undermining constitutional values. Tirkey alleged that Shah made derogatory comments about Dr. Ambedkar during the 18th Lok Sabha’s winter session, calling it unacceptable.
Opposition Criticizes BJP’s Approach
The protests align with demands from the INDIA alliance, including Congress, to highlight constitutional adherence. During the recent parliamentary session, opposition parties called for debates on Adani, Manipur, and other critical issues, which were ignored. Instead, they initiated discussions on the Constitution’s significance, marking its 75th anniversary.
Congress leaders reminded the government of democratic ideals, including equality and justice as championed by Dr. Ambedkar. Tirkey alleged that the BJP’s response was to suppress opposition voices, culminating in Shah’s controversial remarks.
Upcoming Protest Plans
Congress district president Jaish Ranjan Pathak announced intensified campaigns, including a “Baba Saheb Samman March” on Tuesday. Party workers, including 20-point committee members, will submit a memorandum to the district collector addressed to the President.
Vimla Kumari, Satyanand Dubey, and other activists pledged solidarity. “This issue reflects BJP’s disregard for Dr. Ambedkar’s values,” a party spokesperson noted.
Meanwhile, Congress has condemned the FIR lodged against Rahul Gandhi under severe charges and vowed to persist in its protests.
