Tata Zoo Unveils State-of-the-Art Butterfly House Worth Rs 1.76 Crore

Facility features breeding area, education center to showcase 41 butterfly species

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Zoological Park inaugurated its new Butterfly House to promote conservation and education about these vital insects.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Tata Steel’s Vice President of Corporate Services, led the inauguration. Moreover, he invited zoo keeper Malti Manjhi to cut the ribbon.

The facility took eight months to complete. Furthermore, it features three distinct sections for education, breeding, and exhibition.

Conservation Efforts

The zoo has identified 41 butterfly species within its boundaries. Additionally, seven species are already breeding at the facility.

Meanwhile, experts have developed breeding programs for eleven butterfly varieties. “This will help replenish local butterfly populations,” a zoo official explained.

Educational Impact

The 102-square-meter education center will raise awareness. Moreover, visitors can observe butterflies’ complete lifecycle from egg to adult.

The facility maintains specific feeding and breeding conditions. Additionally, it houses important host plants like curry leaf, citrus, and lantana.

The project demonstrates Tata Steel’s environmental commitment. However, officials emphasize the need for continued conservation efforts.
