JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day theatre festival organized jointly by Singhbhum Zila Hindi Sahitya Sammelan and Tulsi Bhavan concluded on December 18, 2024, at the venue’s main auditorium. The event featured two impactful Hindi plays along with dance performances, costume showcases, and antakshari competitions.
Spotlight on Theatre Performances
The festival began with “Ek Aur Dronacharya” by playwright Shankar Shesh. The play shed light on the deterioration in the country’s education system caused by political interference. In contrast, “Jin Lahore Nai Dekhya” by renowned progressive writer Asghar Wajahat vividly portrayed the horrors of the partition of India.
Dr. Ragini Bhushan’s portrayal of an elderly widow left the audience deeply emotional. In a pivotal scene, Ramesh Chaudhary, playing Sikander Mirza, told the widow, “No Hindu can stay in Pakistan. Leave the mansion and go to India.” Responding in a poignant tone, Dr. Bhushan said, “The entire family is gone… We have lost everything—relations, home. What is life or death to me now?”
Her flawless delivery in Urdu struck a chord with the audience, bringing tears to many eyes, followed by thunderous applause. The nuanced performance revived the pain of partition, a story that still resonates with the modern generation.
Impressive Direction and Acting
Directed by Anuj Kumar Srivastava, the performances were praised for their authenticity. Supporting roles played by Ayesha, Pooja Singh, Gyanendra, Anuj, and Vinod Kumar were delivered with conviction. The lighting arrangements and background music further enhanced the overall impact of the performances.
The event was graced by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy as the chief guest and senior journalist Sanjay Mishra as the special guest. Members of the Tulsi Bhavan committee and over a hundred theatre enthusiasts were present to witness the event.
