President Murmu to Launch ₹5603 Crore Rail Projects

Foundation Stones for Three Key Railway Lines in Odisha

Key Points:

  • ₹5603 crore investment to enhance regional railway connectivity

  • 227 km of new tracks across Odisha and Jharkhand

  • 447 bridges, three tunnels, and 18 modernized stations planned

JAMSHEDPUR – President Droupadi Murmu will lay foundation stones for three major rail projects on December 7 at Bangdiposi station under South Eastern Railway’s Kharagpur division.

The ₹5603 crore initiative includes 227 km of new tracks to improve connectivity between Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bengal. The projects aim to ease congestion on the Howrah-Mumbai route and enhance passenger services.

Project Details

The Chakulia-Buramara line spans 59.96 km, requiring ₹1459 crore. The Badampahar-Keonjhar line covers 82.6 km, with a budget of ₹1875 crore, while the Gurumahisani-Bangdiposi line will cost ₹2269 crore for 85.6 km of tracks.

In addition, the projects involve constructing 447 small and large bridges, three tunnels, and upgrading 18 stations with modern facilities. This expansion will boost regional railway infrastructure significantly.

Regional Preparations

Mayurbhanj district administration is preparing for the event, originally scheduled for October 23 but delayed due to Cyclone Dana. In Rairangpur, President Murmu’s native village, helipad construction has already commenced.

Meanwhile, the South Eastern Railway Zone and Odisha Government are working on land investigations and acquisitions to ensure timely execution.

Broader Impacts

Once operational, the projects will alleviate traffic pressure on existing routes, enhance connectivity for passengers, and bolster local economies. Modernized infrastructure will support future growth in rail services.
