JAMTARA – In a significant breakthrough against cybercrime, Jamtara Cyber Police arrested six notorious cybercriminals during raids in Karmatand’s Kala Jharia, Mohanpur, and Rangamati villages on Friday. The operation led to the recovery of a motorcycle, 18 mobile phones, 16 fake SIM cards, and several fraudulent banking and identity documents.
The arrested suspects include Suraj Mandal, Parshuram Mandal, Lalu Yadav, Robin Mandal, Vikas Mandal, and Dipesh Mandal. Two of them, Suraj Mandal and Lalu Yadav, have a prior criminal history and have been involved in cyber fraud cases earlier.
Organized Cyber Fraud Scheme
SDPO Vikas Anand Languri, who disclosed the case during a press conference at the Cyber Police Station, explained the modus operandi of the criminals. The suspects posed as bank or electricity officials to deceive victims, sending messages about electricity disconnection or bank account issues. They then obtained sensitive information, such as ATM details, CVV numbers, and OTPs, to transfer money to fake accounts through e-wallets.
Their targets included unsuspecting people from Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and other states.
Past Offenses
Suraj Mandal and Lalu Yadav have faced charges in previous cybercrime cases. Suraj was earlier charge-sheeted in case number 33/24, while Lalu was named in two prior cases filed in 2021 and 2024 under case numbers 71/21 and 22/24, respectively.
The arrested individuals underwent medical examinations and were presented in court. All six have been sent to Jamtara Mandal Jail. The police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on cybercrime in the region.
