JAMSHEDPUR – East Singhbhum District Kho Kho Association announces a major tournament at New Baradwari school.
The tournament will feature matches in multiple categories. Teams will compete in sub-junior, junior, and senior divisions. Both boys and girls teams will participate in each category.
District Secretary Victor Vijay Samad led a crucial planning meeting today. The meeting took place at the association’s residential office in New Baradwari. Officials discussed arrangements for both district and state events.
Kho Kho has seen growing popularity across Indian schools. The traditional sport originated in Maharashtra several decades ago. It now ranks as the second most popular traditional sport in India.
The tournament will implement a new performance grading system. Top performers will qualify for the Jharkhand Kho Kho Premier League. The district will also select players for the state championship.
"We anticipate record participation this year," Samad told reporters. Teams must register by 7:00 am on the tournament day. Several committees have been formed to ensure smooth operations.
The tournament marks a significant revival of district sports activities. The event follows a long pause in organized sports competitions. Multiple schools and colleges have confirmed their participation.
Special committees will oversee various aspects of the tournament. Treasurer Shyam Kumar Sharma heads the finance committee. Technical Officer Dayal Singh Nehra will manage game operations.
The sport recently received recognition from international sports bodies. This has boosted its popularity among young athletes. The tournament aims to identify promising talent in the district.
