JAMSHEDPUR – Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) overall lackluster performance in the recent Jharkhand assembly elections, former Chief Minister Champai Soren has provided a silver lining by clinching the Saraikela constituency for the seventh time.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the BJP, as it has been two decades since the party last celebrated a win in this seat.
For the past 24 years, Champai Soren had been winning the Saraikela seat under the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) banner.
However, in a strategic political shift, he contested this election as a BJP candidate and successfully retained his stronghold.
While the BJP faced setbacks across the state, Soren’s triumph in Saraikela has infused a sense of jubilation among party members.
In Rajnagar block’s Hensal area, BJP workers, led by East Mandal President Khirud Mahato, organized a celebratory procession.
The streets of Hensal market resonated with drumbeats and slogans like "Champai Soren Zindabad" and "Jai Shri Ram."
Party members exchanged greetings, applied colors, and set off fireworks to mark the occasion.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from numerous BJP supporters, including Dilip Raut, Harekrishna Pradhan, Baldev Mandal, Bhubaneswar Mahato, Vinod Jyotish, Nimbu Pradhan, Ujjal Modak, Somnath Gop, Pavitra Mahakud, Ajit Mandal, and Amarnath Gop.
A local resident remarked, "Champai Soren’s victory has rekindled our faith in the party’s prospects in this region."
This sentiment reflects the renewed optimism among BJP supporters in Saraikela following Soren’s win.
