SERAIKELA – A horrifying incident unfolded in Kurli village under Chandil subdivision of Seraikela district when a man strangled his wife and two-year-old son to death late last night.

The accused, identified as Ashok Mahato, is said to have committed the crime following a heated argument with his wife, Madhumita Mahato.

The couple, married in 2021, reportedly had frequent disputes over Ashok’s investments in the stock market.

On the night of the incident, Madhumita had served food to her father-in-law before heading upstairs with dinner for herself and Ashok.

An argument ensued, during which Ashok allegedly strangled her and their infant son in a fit of rage before fleeing the scene.

The gruesome act has left the local community in shock, with police rushing to the spot after being informed of the crime.

Chandil SDPO Arvind Kumar and Chowka police station in-charge Bajrang Mahto led a team to the site and took the bodies into custody for further investigation.

No official statement has been made by the police or the victim’s family as of now.

A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused, while the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murders.
