Tata Steel’s FAMD Launches India’s First EPD in Ferro Chrome Industry

Milestone eco-label underscores commitment to sustainability and green innovation

Key Points:

– Tata Steel’s FAMD publishes India’s first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Ferro Chrome

– EPD provides detailed, third-party verified environmental impact data

– Initiative supports sustainable practices and green certifications in the construction industry

JAMSHEDPUR/BHUBANESWAR – Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) has become the first in the Indian ferro chrome industry to publish an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Ferro Chrome, a crucial material used in stainless steel production.

The EPD, a Type III eco-label, offers transparent, third-party verified data about the environmental impact of Ferro Chrome, based on a full life cycle assessment (LCA).

This step aligns with Tata Steel’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and provide customers with products that meet global environmental standards.

The LCA for Ferro Chrome was conducted in-house by Tata Steel’s Corporate Sustainability team, adhering to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.

The findings are registered in the International EPD System and are accessible to the public, aiding environmentally conscious businesses in making informed decisions.

Executive-In-Charge of FAMD, Pankaj Satija, stated, "Sustainability lies at the heart of everything we do at Tata Steel. Our latest EPD for Ferro Chrome reflects our commitment to environmental transparency and leadership in the industry."

By publishing this EPD, Tata Steel enables its customers to secure credit points for green certifications in construction and other industries, while supporting the broader mission of sustainable development.

The company plans to extend eco-label certifications such as GreenPro and EPD across its product range, reinforcing its role as a global leader in responsible manufacturing.

Tata Steel has already achieved GreenPro certification for several of its products, underscoring its leadership in sustainability and its alignment with the needs of environmentally conscious customers.
