Karnataka Police Raid Sonari in Probe Into ATM Cash Van Heist

Search Conducted at Rented Homes of Accused Held in Bidar Robbery Case

Key Points:

  • Karnataka police raid Paradesi Para in Sonari over ATM cash van loot
  • Accused Alok Singh and Aman Singh had lived in the locality since April
  • January 2025 Bidar heist involved guard’s murder and Rs 93 lakh loot

JAMSHEDPUR – A team of Karnataka police carried out a raid on Tuesday at Paradesi Para in Sonari as part of an investigation into an ATM cash van robbery case reported from Bidar city. The team searched rented houses where two arrested accused, Alok Singh alias Ambani and Aman Singh, had been residing.

Both accused are residents of Vaishali district in Bihar. Karnataka police had earlier arrested the two men from Vaishali in connection with the case.

During the investigation, weapons were recovered based on disclosures made by the accused. Two live bullets were also found inside the petrol tank of a motorcycle in Alok Singh’s possession.

According to local residents, Alok Singh had moved into a rented house in Paradesi Para in April along with his wife and roughly two-year-old daughter. He reportedly told neighbours he worked at a sofa shop in Mango.

Aman Singh, meanwhile, lived on rent in another house nearby. Both accused had reportedly been away from their homes for several days before the raid.

Alok Singh’s wife had also left the house three days earlier, telling neighbours that her husband had met with an accident. Karnataka police said the ATM cash van robbery took place in Bidar city in January 2025.

During that heist, a security guard was shot dead, and around Rs 93 lakh in cash was looted from the vehicle. The Karnataka police team continued its raid and investigation in Sonari through the day.

Officers are gathering further information regarding other suspects involved in the case and the whereabouts of the looted money. “The accused had been living under false pretences for months before their arrest,” a local resident familiar with the matter said.

The case adds to a series of inter-state criminal investigations linked to Sonari and neighbouring localities in recent months. Police in the district have separately probed other cases involving accused persons with links outside Jharkhand, including a recent case in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, local police continue to investigate other cases involving Jamshedpur residents with connections beyond the state. Cross-state coordination between police forces has also featured in other recent cases, such as the arrest of accused persons in unrelated fraud investigations.
