JAMSHEDPUR – The IFSC Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship 2024, Asia’s largest sport climbing event, began with a grand opening at the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Sport Climbing Academy in Jamshedpur on November 14.

The four-day event, held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, will run until November 17, drawing 184 athletes from 13 countries.

Organized in collaboration with the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Asia Council and the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), this year’s event marks the highest participation in the championship’s history.

The opening ceremony featured Chief Guest Chanakya Chaudhary, TSAF Chairman and Tata Steel’s Vice President of Corporate Services, alongside esteemed dignitaries such as Colonel Vijay Singh, President of IMF; Rasip In, Secretary General of IFSC Asia; and Shinji Mizumura, Vice President of IFSC Asia.

TSAF, a non-profit organization under Tata Steel, focuses on outbound leadership, athlete development, and environmental conservation.

Its legendary guide, Padma Bhushan recipient Bachendri Pal, who was the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest in 1984, established TSAF to inspire a spirit of adventure and leadership.

The event’s hosting facility, the TSAF Sport Climbing Academy, benefits from Tata Steel Foundation and JCAPCPL support, which also serves as its grassroots development partner.

The Indian team consists of 30 athletes, with 13 climbers from the TSAF ecosystem, including five from MKP (Masti Ki Pathshala) centers such as Piple, Baghuhatu, Parsudih, Tinplate, and Rajnagar.
