Railways on High Alert as Naxalites Declare Economic Blockade

Increased vigilance on railways in Jharkhand and Odisha due to Naxalite-imposed economic blockade and anti-oppression week.

JAMSHEDPUR – The South Eastern Railway zone has heightened its alert level in response to the Naxalites’ declaration of an anti-oppression week and economic blockade from June 26 to July 2.

Due to this, the vigilance of RPF on the Rourkela and other routes of Odisha in the Chakradharpur railway division of the Howrah-Mumbai route has been increased from Sunday night itself.

The concern stems from the possibility that Naxalites might snatch arms and ammunition from security personnel during the economic blockade and anti-repression week, and could also potentially kidnap railway workers on station or line duty.

Orders have been issued from the headquarters to keep accident relief ready at all stations and to increase line checking and patrolling.

The control room at the railway divisional level has been directed to remain vigilant and to relay any information to the headquarters immediately.

RPF and GRP have been advised to seek assistance from local police for the security of lines, passengers, and property.

It should be noted that Naxalites have previously orchestrated several incidents at stations located in Kolhan and Odisha.

The plan for safe operation includes emphasis on explosives testing in trains, lines, and from station to cabin.
