Seraikela Seat Becomes Headache for JMM as Workers Protest

Local JMM supporters protest against external candidates, demand local leadership.

Key Points:

– JMM workers protest for local candidate in Seraikela Assembly seat.

– External candidates are being opposed as the party delays announcement.

– Seraikela has been a stronghold of JMM for over 20 years.

SERAIKELA – The Seraikela Assembly seat has become a growing concern for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) as its local workers staged a protest demanding a local candidate for the upcoming 2024 elections.

With the nomination deadline for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections approaching on October 25, JMM has yet to declare a candidate for its traditional stronghold, Seraikela, where the party has been undefeated for two decades.

This delay has caused frustration among grassroots workers.

On Wednesday, under the leadership of JMM central member Ramdas Tudu, several party supporters demonstrated in Kandra, challenging the leadership to choose a local candidate instead of an external one.

Protesters expressed that they would not support an outsider, warning that they might abstain from the elections if grassroots leaders, who have worked for the party for 20 years, are ignored.

Rumors continue to circulate, with names like ex-BJP members Basco Besra and Ganesh Mahali seen as strong contenders for the ticket.

Meanwhile, local leaders such as Krishna Baske and Dabba Soren are also pushing for candidacy.

The internal unrest could escalate if an external candidate is chosen.
