Regional competition highlights vocational skills of disabled participants

• 100 PwDs from 4 states competed in 15 vocational categories

JAMSHEDPUR – The East Zone Regional Abilympics 2024, held at Tata Steel Technical Institute, celebrated the exceptional talents of Persons with Disabilities from across Eastern India.
The competition featured participants from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha.
Competitors demonstrated their skills in various categories, including Information and Communication Technology, crafts, and hospitality.
In the ICT category, Chinmay Mandal from West Bengal secured a Gold medal in Word Processing.
Meanwhile, Jyotirmayee Pradhan from Odisha earned a Silver medal in the same category.
The Photography category saw Paras Mani Mandal clinching Gold.
On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar from Bihar received Silver in Data Processing.
In the Crafts category, Bihar’s hearing-impaired Shubhra Sinha showcased her artistic prowess, winning Gold in Painting.
Moreover, Vicky Sharma from Jharkhand and Rinki Kumari from Bihar earned Bronze medals in Painting and Embroidery, respectively.
The Hospitality and Restaurant Services category featured 25 participants.
Among them, Odisha’s hearing-impaired Nityanand stood out, securing a Bronze medal.
The Tailoring & Dress Making category proved to be highly competitive, with seven PwDs claiming top honors.
Notably, Bihar’s Shamim Alam won Gold in Tailoring, while Vinod Kumar secured Silver.
In the Dress Making subcategory, local talent Gulafshan Bano from Jamshedpur clinched Gold.
Furthermore, Yasin Ansari from Bihar and Kunti Kumar from Jamshedpur earned Silver and Bronze, respectively.
Dr. Jitender Agarwal, Secretary General of NAAI, praised the participants’ determination and talent.
He emphasized the event’s significance in showcasing the readiness of PwDs for workforce inclusion.
Health Minister Banna Gupta inaugurated the competition, highlighting its importance.
In addition, several partners, including Tata Power and Tata Steel Foundation, contributed to the event’s success.
The Abilympics underscored the crucial role of vocational skills in empowering PwDs and promoting self-reliance.
