Mohit Hotel Near Tatanagar Station Demolished by Railways

Long-standing establishment razed, sparking concerns among local residents

Key Points:

• Railways demolish 40-year-old Mohit Hotel near Tatanagar station

• Owner claims no prior notice, expresses dismay over sudden action

• Demolition raises fears among residents living on encroached railway land

JAMSHEDPUR – The Mohit Hotel, a fixture near Tatanagar railway station for four decades, was demolished on Monday by railway authorities, sparking concerns among local residents.

Heavy machinery was used to raze the hotel.

Railway Protection Force personnel were present to ensure smooth proceedings.

Moreover, Magistrate Shaila Minz explained the legal basis for the demolition.

She stated that the court decision favored the railways two years ago.

The cleared space will be repurposed for public use.

Meanwhile, hotel owner Karan Singh expressed dismay over the sudden action.

He claimed his family had run the hotel for 40 years, providing vital services.

Singh revealed ongoing legal battles with the railways since 2017.

Furthermore, he stated he never received any notice before the demolition.

The demolition has instilled fear among residents living on encroached railway land, he said.

Many worry their homes might face similar fates.

On the other hand, the recent razing of Singh Hindu Hotel has intensified these anxieties.

Additionally, the demolition highlights challenges in Tatanagar Station’s redevelopment plans.

Illegal occupation of railway land hinders the station’s ordered redevelopment.

This encroachment presents a significant obstacle for district and railway administrations.

Removing illegal structures is expected to reignite political tensions.

Politicians who benefited from occupying railway land may complicate the situation.

A historical precedent exists from 1998 when similar demolitions occurred.

However, the resurfacing of encroachment suggests systemic failures in addressing the issue.
