Industry Leaders Converge to Redefine Management Programs

JAMSHEDPUR – XLRI Jamshedpur recently concluded a groundbreaking two-day Indian Management Conclave, focusing on identifying contemporary roles and competencies for restructuring MBA programs.
The event, organized in collaboration with MBAUniverse.com, drew approximately 200 delegates from premier institutions and diverse industry sectors.
Participants included representatives from IIMs, IITs, XLRI, and SP JAIMR, alongside corporate giants such as Uber, Axis Bank, and Deloitte.
Dr. TG Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, graced the event as the chief guest, emphasizing the need for adaptive education.
"In this era of rapid change, it’s crucial to regularly redesign courses to meet the dynamic requirements of both industry and society," Dr. Sitharam remarked.
Father S George, Director of XLRI, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the conclave’s significance in shaping management education.
Prominent Industry Perspectives
Pawan Bhageria, Global HR and Education Head at Tata Technologies, stressed the importance of aligning education with industry needs.
"We must bridge the gap between academic curricula and real-world skills demanded by employers," Bhageria stated.
Hemant Malik, Executive Director of ITC, shared insights on the evolving landscape of management education.
Dr. Jeff Perry, Managing Director of AACSB International (Asia Pacific), offered a global perspective on management education trends.
Research and Recognition
The conclave featured presentations of 50 selected research papers from a pool of 150 submissions.
Over 45 leading B-schools participated in the IMC Award for Excellence in Management Education 2024.
Richard Lobo, Chief People Officer at Tech Mahindra, emphasized the importance of soft skills in management education.
"Technical expertise alone is not enough. We need managers with strong interpersonal and leadership abilities," Lobo asserted.
Future of Management Education
Giridhar S, Management Consulting Co-leader at RSM US LLP, shared insights on consulting industry expectations from MBA graduates.
Ashish Maheshwari, Education Director at KPMG, discussed the evolving role of technology in management education.
The closing session featured a keynote address by Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia.
"The future belongs to those who can navigate uncertainty and drive change," Singh remarked, highlighting the need for adaptability in management education.
Awards and Recognition
The conclave concluded with the presentation of awards for best research papers and excellence in management education.
Prof. Andrila Chatterjee and Prof. Tulika Sharma secured the Gold category for their research on business ethics education.
Dr. Nithu Ismail and Dr. Lishin M Joshi won the Silver category for their study on tech-driven self-learning among Indian management graduates.
