Rivers in Jamshedpur Reach Dangerous Levels Amid Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rains elevate Kharkai River above danger level; Swarnarekha River nears critical mark.

Key Points:

– Kharkai River flows above the danger level at Adityapur bridge.

– Swarnarekha River nears danger level near Mango bridge.

– Flood threat prompts district administration to alert NDRF.

JAMSHEDPUR – Persistent rainfall in the region has caused water levels in the Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers to rise significantly, leading to a potential flood threat.

The Kharkai River has surged past its danger level of 129.00 meters, reaching approximately 131.28 meters near the Adityapur bridge.

Meanwhile, the Swarnarekha River is nearing its danger level of 121.50 meters, currently recorded at around 121.22 meters near the Mango bridge.

These elevated levels have raised concerns of flooding in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas.

In response, the Ganjia Barrage has opened seven gates by 6 meters, although its water level remains below the danger threshold of 143.70 meters, currently at 137.50 meters.

Additionally, the Chandil Dam, with a capacity of 192 meters, is currently holding at 182.10 meters, also below its danger mark.

In Odisha, the increasing water level in the Baingbil Dam has led to the opening of two gates.

The district administration has issued a flood alert, warning residents in low-lying and riverbank areas to remain vigilant and take safety precautions.

NDRF teams have been put on high alert to respond to any emergency.

The district administration continues to monitor the situation closely as water continues to rise in the region.
