KANDRA – A major accident was narrowly avoided on Wednesday evening when a school bus carrying 60-70 children returning from a district-level sports event began emitting smoke from one of its tires.
The incident took place on the Seraikela-Chandil road.
Passersby following the bus noticed the smoke and immediately signaled the driver to stop.
Once the bus halted, the children inside quickly escaped through the emergency exit, windows, and doors in a panic.
Thanks to the quick thinking of the bystanders and the bus crew, who doused the smoking tire with water, a potential disaster was prevented.
There was only one government employee on board as a guardian.
In response to the incident, the District Education Superintendent expressed concern and stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
A key question being raised is how the safety of these children was compromised and whether the bus had a valid fitness certificate.
