JAMSHEDPUR – Legislator Saryu Roy recently met with senior Supreme Court advocate Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay at his Nizamuddin Institute office in Delhi to discuss the Jamshedpur district administration’s notice to demolish around 150 houses in the Indira Nagar-Kalyan Nagar slums.

During their meeting, they decided to wait until the Jamshedpur district administration files a new affidavit, as directed by the Kolkata bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), before responding and presenting the slum dwellers’ case before the bench.

The next hearing is set for October 20, by which time the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum must submit a detailed affidavit to the NGT.

Additionally, the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand is required to file a personal affidavit.

It was noted that none of the NGT’s orders had instructed the demolition of slum dwellers’ houses or issued notices for such action.

The court is expected to question the Deputy Commissioner about the basis for issuing the demolition notice.

Roy also pointed out that some individuals were spreading misinformation among the slum dwellers for political purposes.

He urged the affected residents to submit their claims to the NGT through affidavits rather than making unfounded public statements.
