Key Points:
• 12 aspirants die during excise constable recruitment physical tests
• BJP’s Chouhan alleges conspiracy, JMM points to 2016 rule amendment
• Recruitment drive to resume Sept 10 with revised safety measures
RANCHI – The recent deaths of 12 aspirants during Jharkhand’s excise constable recruitment tests spark political controversy and prompt safety revisions.
BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused the Soren government of negligence.
He alleged the recruitment drive was a pre-election ploy for votes.
"This led to 12 youths’ deaths," Chouhan stated at Ranchi Airport.
The Union Minister criticized the 10-km run requirement as unprecedented.
JMM countered, citing a 2016 BJP-era amendment to assessment rules.
A party spokesperson referenced the 2013 rules’ 1.6 km run requirement.
The recruitment drive, halted on September 3, will resume on September 10.
"We’re implementing strict safety measures," a police official confirmed.
New provisions include oxygen level and blood pressure monitoring devices.
The revised process will test only 3,000 candidates daily until 8 am.
So far, 1.87 lakh candidates have attempted the running test.
Of these, 1.17 lakh successfully passed the physical examination.
The incident highlights tensions between BJP and the ruling coalition.
It also underscores the need for safer recruitment practices in Jharkhand.
