LIC East Central Zonal Chess Tournament 2024 Concludes in Jamshedpur

WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty and Ashutosh Mohapatra clinch top spots in intense competition

The LIC East Central Zonal Chess Tournament 2024 wrapped up with impressive performances from top regional players in both men’s and women’s categories.

JAMSHEDPUR – The two-day LIC East Central Zonal Chess Tournament 2024 concluded at Jeevan Prakash Building, Bistupur, showcasing fierce competition among regional chess talents.

WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty dominated the women’s section, securing victory with 4.5 points.

Nemali Padma Sailaja claimed the second position with 4 points, while Trivedi Manisha and Ratnapriya Raj tied for third place, each scoring 3 points.

In the men’s category, Ashutosh Mohapatra emerged triumphant with an outstanding 5.5 points.

Himangshu B Chakraborty and Amresh shared the second spot, both scoring 4.5 points.

Bidhu Bhusan Mishra rounded out the top four in the men’s section with 4 points.

The tournament, organized by the DSC and LIESC of the Jamshedpur Division, featured 22 participants – 12 men and 10 women.

Players competed through six rounds in the men’s category and five in the women’s, with three rounds played on the final day.

The top four players from each category will represent the East Central Zone at the upcoming All India LIC Chess Tournament 2024.

Chief Guest Shyam Sundar Besra, RM (HRD), Patna, presided over the prize distribution ceremony.

Ananta Bhushan Rath, Sr. DM, Jamshedpur, and G. Ravi Shankar, Honorary Secretary of the LIE Sports Club, also attended the event.

International Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad officiated the tournament as Chief Arbiter, ensuring fair play throughout the competition.
