NGT Dismisses Petition on Jamshedpur’s Bhuiyandih Basti Demolition
Tribunal clarifies demolition notice unrelated to Dalma Eco Sensitive Zone case
The National Green Tribunal has rejected an intervention petition regarding the demolition of houses in Indranagar-Kalyan Nagar slum in Jamshedpur.
JAMSHEDPUR – The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has dismissed a petition challenging the demolition notice for houses in Jamshedpur’s Indranagar-Kalyan Nagar slum.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Sanjay Upadhyay had filed the intervention petition.
The lawyer argued that the demolition notice was linked to an ongoing NGT case.
However, the Tribunal clarified that the notice is unrelated to its case concerning the Dalma Eco Sensitive Zone and Swarnarekha riverbank.
NGT stated that the demolition notice is solely a district administration matter.
The Tribunal found no connection between the notice and any reports or orders from NGT or the Forest Environment Department of Jharkhand.
Neither the joint investigation report nor the Chief Secretary’s affidavit mentioned the affected houses.
The NGT left open the possibility for petitioners to return if future reports mention these houses under NGT directives.
For now, the case remains under local administration jurisdiction.
The Tribunal’s decision clarifies the separation between local administrative actions and ongoing environmental cases.
