Driver flees, abandoning vehicle loaded with contraband near Halkatta
Authorities intercepted a large-scale illegal liquor trafficking operation from Jamtara to Dhanbad in East Tundi.
DHANBAD – East Tundi police confiscated 316 bottles of illegal liquor following a tip-off about smuggling activities from Jamtara to Dhanbad.
On August 20, around 9:35 PM, police attempted to stop a TATA ACE vehicle (JH11AM-9251) near Latani village.
The driver, upon spotting the police, drove erratically and tried to evade capture.
After a brief chase, the suspect abandoned the vehicle near Halkatta village and escaped into the darkness.
A search of the vehicle revealed 250 bottles of Royal Stag liquor and 66 bottles of Imperial Blue hidden in its lower compartments.
The seized contraband and vehicle were transported to East Tundi police station for further investigation.
Authorities have filed a case under various sections of the Jharkhand Excise Act against the driver and vehicle owner.
The operation was led by PU Madan Choudhary, East Tundi police station in-charge, with support from SHO Veer Abhimanyu and reserve guards.
This successful raid highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing illegal liquor trafficking in the region.
Local residents have expressed concern over the prevalence of such smuggling activities and their potential impact on community safety.
"We commend the swift action of the East Tundi police in intercepting this illegal shipment," stated a spokesperson for a local community watch group.
The incident has prompted calls for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement of liquor laws in the area.
