Jamshedpur Auto Parts Dealer Jailed for Cheque Bounce

Court orders one-year imprisonment and Rs. 5 lakh compensation

A local businessman faces legal consequences for issuing a bounced cheque in a commercial transaction.

JAMSHEDPUR – The First Class Judicial Magistrate’s court has sentenced an auto parts dealer to one year in prison for violating the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Sarvjit Singh, the convicted businessman, has been ordered to serve one year of simple imprisonment by Magistrate Siddhant Tigga.

The court also mandated Singh to pay Rs. 5 lakh as compensation, which includes the original cheque amount.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Prashant Khirwal, owner of Prashant Auto at Dimna Chowk.

Khirwal alleged that Singh purchased auto parts worth Rs. 4,55,821 from his shop and issued a State Bank of India cheque as payment.

The cheque was subsequently returned due to insufficient funds in Singh’s account.

Advocate Tarkeshwar Prasad represented the plaintiff, Khirwal, successfully arguing the case in court.

This verdict underscores the serious legal implications of issuing cheques without adequate account balance.

The case highlights the protections provided to businesses under the Negotiable Instruments Act against payment defaults.

Local business owners have welcomed the ruling, viewing it as a deterrent against fraudulent commercial practices.

The sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining financial integrity in business transactions.

Singh’s conviction may have broader implications for his business operations and reputation in the local auto parts industry.

The court’s decision to include compensation beyond the original cheque amount aims to address the financial impact on the victim.

This case may prompt local businesses to exercise greater caution in their financial dealings and payment methods.

The auto parts industry in Jamshedpur, a key sector in the local economy, may see increased scrutiny of financial transactions following this incident.
