Sanjeev Kumar Tomar secures 7th place in 50+ age group in Sweden
Tomar’s 51.53-meter throw at Gothenburg event follows gold medal win in Asian championship.
JAMSHEDPUR – Indian athlete Sanjeev Kumar Tomar has secured a commendable 7th place in the hammer throw event at the 25th World Master Athletic Championship 2024 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Competing in the 50+ age group, Tomar achieved an impressive throw of 51.53 meters.
The gold medal in the event was claimed by Mariusz Walczak of Poland.
German and Belgian athletes secured the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Tomar’s performance stood out among a field of 37 competitors in his age category.
This achievement follows Tomar’s recent gold medal victory at the Asian Master Athletic Championship in the Philippines.
At the Asian championship, Tomar set a record with a throw of 51.03 meters.
Vijay Singh, President of the Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand, extended his congratulations to Tomar.
Former international athlete Gurdev Singh and international cyclist Avtar Singh also praised Tomar’s performance.
Other sports officials and enthusiasts, including Sabu Joseph, L.M. Mahanta, and Pradeep Mukherjee, joined in celebrating Tomar’s success.
Tomar’s achievements highlight India’s growing presence in master athletics on the global stage.
