New railway lines to boost connectivity across 7 states, covering 900 km and 64 stations
The government’s ambitious rail expansion plan aims to enhance mobility and foster economic growth in underserved regions.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has greenlit eight significant railway projects, signaling a major boost to India’s transportation infrastructure.
The approved initiatives span across seven states, encompassing 14 districts.
These undertakings will add 900 kilometers to the existing railway network.
The plan includes the construction of 64 new stations, improving connectivity for approximately 510 villages.
Key Benefits:
1. Enhanced connectivity for 6 Aspirational Districts
2. Improved access for about 40 lakh residents
3. Connection to Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site
4. Increased freight capacity by 143 Million Tonnes Per Annum
5. Reduced oil imports by 32.20 Crore Liters
6. Lowered CO2 emissions by 0.87 Million Tonnes
Economic and Environmental Impact
The expansion will facilitate the transportation of various commodities, including agricultural products, minerals, and industrial goods.
An unnamed railway official stated, “These projects align with our commitment to sustainable development, equivalent to planting 3.5 crore trees in terms of environmental benefits.”
The initiatives are expected to bolster the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision by stimulating local economies and creating employment opportunities.
