Noamundi and Joda East Iron Mines honored by Ministry of Mines for excellence in operations
Tata Steel’s Noamundi and Joda East Iron Mines receive prestigious 5-Star Rating Award for sustainable development practices from the Indian government.
JAMSHEDPUR – Two Tata Steel mines have been awarded the 5-Star Rating by the Ministry of Mines for their exceptional sustainable development practices.
The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, bestowed the prestigious 5-Star Rating Award upon Tata Steel’s Noamundi Iron Mine and Joda East Iron Mine.
These mines are part of the company’s Ore, Mines and Quarries (OMQ) Division.
The recognition was presented during a felicitation ceremony held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Representing Tata Steel at the event were Rajesh Kumar, Chief of Joda, D Vijayendra, Chief of Noamundi Iron Mine, Pinku Kumar, Head of Planning for Mine Planning (OMQ), and Gaurav Mukherjee, Area Manager for Mine Planning (OMQ).
The 5-Star Rating system evaluates mining operations based on various factors, including operational efficiency, environmental management, safety standards, community engagement, and sustainable mining practices.
Tata Steel’s mines have implemented cutting-edge technologies such as advanced mining software, drone technology, and fleet management systems.
"We are committed to fostering a culture of safety, sustainability, and excellence in all our mining operations," stated a Tata Steel representative.
The company has also initiated multiple community programs focusing on education, skill development, health, sanitation, and overall welfare of nearby villages.
Remote-controlled drills and real-time quality monitoring systems are among the innovative practices employed at these mines.
Tata Steel continues to set industry benchmarks in the mining sector, encouraging others to follow suit in sustainable practices.
