Key Points:
- Displaced family stages peaceful protest demanding jobs at steel plant
- Company security officer accused of using caste-based slurs on October 6
- Complainant demands FIR under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act
SERAIKELA – A security officer at Amalgam Steel and Power Limited faces allegations of caste-based abuse during a peaceful employment protest by a displaced family at the Kandra plant gate.
Govind Kalindi filed a written complaint with the Kandra police station. He demanded registration of an FIR against the company official. The incident occurred on October 6 at the factory entrance.
The Kalindi family had organized a peaceful demonstration. They were demanding employment from the steel company. Their land was acquired for the industrial project.
However, security officer Tarkanath allegedly disrupted the protest. He reportedly used abusive language against the protesters. The complaint states he employed caste-based derogatory terms.
Serious Legal Implications
Such conduct constitutes a grave offense under law. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 applies. Moreover, violations carry strict penalties and imprisonment.
The complainant preserved crucial evidence for investigation. CCTV footage of the incident has been secured. Kalindi submitted this material with his police complaint.
Earlier Threat Allegation
Another company employee faces separate accusations as well. On September 9, 2025, R.N. Prasad allegedly threatened Kalindi. The complainant says he received warnings of physical assault.
Kalindi included both incidents in his complaint. He demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter. The police station has received the formal application.
The displaced family continues seeking employment from the company. Their protest remained peaceful throughout the demonstration. Local residents report the family lost land for development.
A local source confirmed the family’s long-standing employment demand. “They have been requesting jobs for several months,” he said. The company has not responded to their requests.
