Rain Abates in Jamshedpur; Flood Threat Persists Due to Dam Water Release

District administration issues alert as dam gates open, increasing flood risk in low-lying areas.

Intermittent rainfall in Kolhan, including Jamshedpur, has ceased, but major rivers remain swollen, prompting the district administration to open four gates of Chandil Dam.

JAMSHEDPUR – The continuous rainfall in Kolhan, including Jamshedpur, for the past four days has stopped, but the water levels in major rivers are still high.

In response, the district administration has opened four gates of Chandil Dam as a precautionary measure, heightening the flood risk in the coastal areas of Jamshedpur.

Flood Risk and Evacuation Orders

The district administration has directed residents in low-lying areas to move to safer locations due to the increased flood risk.

The Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers, which flow through Jamshedpur, are nearing dangerous levels.

Swarnarekha’s danger level is 121.50 meters, currently about 5 meters below the danger mark, while Kharkai’s danger level is 129 meters, now approximately 2 meters below the danger mark.

Water Release and Impact

Approximately 3500 cusecs of water have been released from Chandil Dam, which is expected to reach Jamshedpur in five to six hours.

The district administration has increased vigilance in the coastal areas to ensure safety.
