The case is registered under IPC sections 106 (negligence causing death), 125A (wrongful driving), and 125B (negligent operation causing harm).
Sub-Inspector Kashikant Gorai of Kharsawan police station has been appointed as the investigating officer.
The accident occurred early on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at approximately 3:40 AM when train number 12810 Howrah – Mumbai Mail collided with a goods train.
The collision resulted in the death of two passengers and injuries to several others.
The incident took place between Rajkharsawan and Barabambo railway stations at kilometer marker 298/21.
Approximately 20 coaches of the Howrah – CSMT Mumbai Express derailed after hitting the goods train’s wagons.
Railway officials were immediately notified and arrived at the scene to begin relief and rescue operations.
The injured were transported to Chakradharpur Railway Hospital for treatment.
At the time of the incident, Station Master Jayaram Mardi was on duty and promptly recorded the incident in the station diary and informed senior officials.
Railway authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident.
Station Master Shekhar has requested a detailed investigation into the matter by the police.
