JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant will be closed on Saturday, July 27, for a block closure, as announced by Plant Head Ravindra Kulkarni.

This closure will be followed by a regular Sunday holiday, with normal operations resuming on Monday.

Impact on Employees

During the block closure, employees will receive 50% of their salary, with the remaining 50% covered by the company. This decision, signed by Plant Head Ravindra Kulkarni, reflects the company’s efforts to manage production costs and align vehicle production with demand.

"Employees will receive half their salary during the block closure, with the other half borne by the company," the notice stated.

Challenges Faced

The Jamshedpur plant has experienced 11 block closures this year, affecting employee wages and overall operations.

Due to these closures, employees have lost about five and a half days’ worth of wages.

Temporary and basic employees are also directly impacted by these closures.

Wider Economic Impact

The block closures also have a ripple effect on smaller companies in the Adityapur industrial area, which rely on Tata Motors for production.

Approximately 1.50 lakh workers and 1,200 companies are indirectly affected by these closures.

Other impacted entities include Tata Cummins and Steel Strips Wheels Limited in Govindpur.
