Elephant Attack Injures Laborer in Chandanpur Panchayat

Villagers escape elephant attack; one severely injured.

Forest officials provide immediate assistance to the victim.

CHAKULIA – A resident of Shakabhanga village in Chandanpur Panchayat, Chakulia block, was injured in an elephant attack on Monday evening.

Bariyal Tudu, 31, was attacked by an elephant, while his companion Abhi Mahakud, 40, narrowly escaped.

Tudu was brought to the community health center on Tuesday morning for treatment.

Upon receiving information, forest department officials visited the village to check on the injured.

Tudu and Mahakud, both laborers, were returning home on bicycles from their work in Khairbani.

As they reached the school area of Shakabhanga village, two elephants surrounded them.

Tudu, who was ahead, was chased and pushed by one of the elephants, causing him to fall into a nearby ditch and sustain injuries.

Mahakud managed to escape the attack and alerted the villagers.

With the help of the villagers, Tudu received initial treatment in Pitajudi before being taken to the community health center in Chakulia.

Dr. Ranjit Kumar Murmu, the in-charge medical officer, treated Tudu and referred him to Jhargram for better medical care.

Forest department officials Biplav Kumar and Bhaduram Soren visited the health center and provided an immediate assistance of Rs 5000 for Tudu’s treatment.
