Thousands of Fish Die in Raja Talab Jamshedpur Due to Chemical Contamination

Overuse of chemicals to clean Raja Talab results in mass fish death

JAMSHEDPUR – Thousands of fish have died in Raja Talab, Harharguttu, Bagbera, after chemicals were used to clean the pond.

The incident came to light on Sunday when local residents reported a foul smell emanating from the pond.

Upon investigation, they found thousands of dead fish floating in the water.

The chemical, allegedly used excessively for cleaning purposes, is believed to have caused the fish deaths.

Residents informed the administration on Monday morning, prompting the immediate arrival of SDO Parul Singh at the site.

The SDO conducted a videography of the entire pond and confirmed that the water had turned toxic.

"The water has become poisonous, and this pond is also used for bathing by locals," stated SDO Parul Singh.

On receiving complaints, instructions were given to clean the pond and make it encroachment-free.

The fish deaths are currently under investigation.

A team from the fisheries department also visited the site to examine the situation.

Initial findings suggest that wastewater from several nearby apartments had been discharged into the pond, contaminating it.

In response to complaints about the dirty water, chemicals were sprayed, leading to the mass death of fish.

Locals accuse the cleaning staff of using excessive chemicals, which they believe caused the fish deaths.
