Jharkhand Aims to Boost Irrigation Coverage
CM Champai Soren Pushes for Modern Irrigation Technologies
The Jharkhand government is intensifying efforts to expand irrigation facilities, with a focus on innovative solutions to reach every farm in the state.
RANCHI – Chief Minister Champai Soren conducted a high-level review meeting of the Water Resources Department, emphasizing the need to accelerate irrigation projects across Jharkhand.
"Our goal is to ensure water reaches every field in the state," CM Soren declared, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity.
Emphasis on Modern Irrigation Techniques
The Chief Minister advocated for the adoption of cutting-edge irrigation technologies, particularly praising the effectiveness of mega lift and underground pipeline irrigation projects.
"Underground pipeline irrigation projects are being expanded in Jharkhand," CM Soren stated. "This approach eliminates land acquisition issues and prevents village submergence caused by dams and reservoirs."
Focus on Small-Scale Projects
CM Soren directed the Water Resources Department to prioritize smaller irrigation projects for quicker results.
"While large and medium-scale irrigation projects take considerable time and resources, smaller initiatives can provide swift benefits to our farmers," the Chief Minister explained.
Addressing Displacement Concerns
Acknowledging the challenges associated with large-scale irrigation projects, CM Soren emphasized the need to resolve displacement-related issues.
"We must ensure that rehabilitation and compensation matters for the displaced are not left pending," he asserted, urging officials to minimize displacement wherever possible.
Promotion of Solar-Powered Irrigation
The Chief Minister highlighted solar energy as a sustainable alternative for irrigation purposes.
"Solar-powered irrigation systems should be utilized for operating irrigation pumps and drip irrigation systems," CM Soren suggested. "This approach can help reduce water wastage, increase crop yields, and cut unnecessary electricity expenses for farmers."
An official from the Water Resources Department, speaking on condition of anonymity, added, "The Chief Minister’s push for modern irrigation techniques aligns with our department’s vision to achieve sustainable water management. We’re working on detailed plans to implement these directives effectively."
