Shobha Mahato Joins Indian National Team for Laser Run World Championship in China

Shobha Mahato from Seraikela-Kharsawan secures a spot on India’s team for the Laser Run World Championship.

Her outstanding performance at the 8th National Modern Pentathlon Competition earned her a place in the event.

SERAIKELA – Shobha Mahato, a 27-year-old athlete from Seraikela-Kharsawan district, will represent India at the Laser Run World Championship in Jinghua, China, on June 7.

This achievement follows her stellar showing at the 8th National Modern Pentathlon Competition in Amravati.

She hails from the remote rural area of Shoshomali in Rajnagar block.

Despite her modest background, she has excelled in various sports, notably placing third in the 15th Jharkhand State Cross Country Competition.

She also ranked 60th in the 10 km women’s race at the 58th National Cross Country Competition in Gaya, Bihar.

In addition to running, she is skilled in karate, reflecting her versatility as an athlete.

Despite her accomplishments, Shobha faces financial hurdles, needing about Rs 2 lakh for a passport and travel expenses.

Sikandar Mahato, President of the Seraikela-Kharsawan District Modern Pentathlon Association, expressed concern over fundraising amid election activities.

Her swift progress to the national team underscores her potential and need for financial support to compete globally.
