Local Tribal Groups Engage in Artistic Expression to Promote Environmental Awareness
On April 28, 2024, Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) initiated a three-day art and craft workshop titled "Jaiba Kala Vividhata" at its Sukinda Chromite Mine campus, aimed at promoting biodiversity through artistic expression.
SUKINDA – Tata Steel, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship, hosted the "Jaiba Kala Vividhata" workshop to facilitate engagement with particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) through art.
The workshop welcomed around 50 participants from the Mankidia and Juanga tribes, providing them with hands-on training led by Jamshedpur-based Shilpi Niketan, under the guidance of renowned artists Mrs. Rinku Pramanik and Babban Moharana.
This initiative was designed to offer indigenous communities a platform to display their artistic talents, learn new skills, and express their creativity, while also emphasizing the importance of conserving biodiversity.
Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge at FAMD, Tata Steel, commented on the significance of these efforts, stating that the workshop aimed to deepen community awareness and appreciation for biodiversity conservation surrounding their operations.
The event included educational sessions, interactive exhibitions, and community engagement activities, highlighting the rich biodiversity of the region and underscoring the need for its sustainable management.
Present at the event were Shambhu Nath Jha, Chief of Mines, Devraj Tiwari, Head Mining (Sukinda Chromite Mine), Nihar Mitra, Senior Area Manager (Mining Operation), Anjna Tiwari, Senior Area Manager (Security), along with other senior officials from Tata Steel.
