Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi issues guidelines to medical in-charges for heat-related illnesses

The Civil Surgeon of East Singhbhum district has alerted all medical in-charges and directed them to make concrete preparations to handle the increasing temperature and potential heat-related illnesses during the summer.

JAMSHEDPUR – In anticipation of higher temperatures this year, the Campaign Director of National Health Mission Jharkhand has written a letter to Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi, providing special directions to combat heat-related issues.

The Civil Surgeon has instructed all medical in-charges in the district to take necessary measures to ensure that patients do not face any problems during the summer.

The city’s temperature has been continuously increasing, raising concerns about the potential rise in heat-related illnesses.

Preparations to Combat Heat-Related Issues

A rapid response team will be formed to deal with the summer, and the number of dedicated beds in hospitals will be increased.

The main cause of heat stroke is the deficiency of water and minerals in the body due to prolonged exposure to strong sunlight and heat.

District epidemiologist Dr. Asad emphasized that the number of patients can be reduced by taking the victim to the nearest health center as soon as possible.

Guidelines for Healthcare Facilities

All doctors and paramedical staff should be oriented to deal with heat-related diseases, and emergency treatment for heat-related patients should be ensured.

Dedicated beds should be arranged for heat-related patients according to the hospital’s capacity.

Adequate arrangements for staff, beds, IV fluids, ORS, and other medicines and equipment should be made at the district and community health centers.

Outreach clinics should be arranged for vulnerable populations, including children under five years of age, pregnant women, women, and senior citizens.

Symptoms of heat stroke should be checked in all patients coming to OPD, and provision of cold drinking water and proper seating arrangements should be ensured.

Cooling measures such as fans or coolers should be arranged in the wards, and an ORS corner should be set up in the first aid room.

Availability of adequate quantities of intravenous fluid, ORS packets, and fever medicine should be ensured.
